As many of you who are close to me know, I love to write. Someday, if the Lord is willing, I may actually make an attempt at the life of a writer full-time. But, alas, those are just dreams.

I do have one piece of work that has been published: Deeper Discipleship: Kingdom Values. It was published by 21st Century Christian.

How a nobody like me actually got published is a story worth telling. But, I won’t bore you with the details. Suffice it to say that it took the courage of a few really good people. One such person was Barry Brewer at 21st Century Christian. (Actually, Barry simply caved in to the pressure of Tom Tignor, but that is a different story).

This morning I received this from Tom Tignor. Please join me in praying for Barry’s family.

December 11, 2008

Dear friends,

Twenty-first Century Christian CEO, Barry Brewer, finished his 12-year battle with cancer the afternoon of December 10th and went on to meet his Creator. He leaves behind his wife, Debbie, and two children, Martha Ann and Tyne.
During Barry’s tenure as CEO, the Christian bookstore business experienced many changes. Barry managed to navigate those difficult changes, adapt, and lead the company toward growth. He always had a heart for evangelism and insisted that our publications remain true to the Bible. His mark on this company and the industry will be felt for many years to come.
As a company, 21st Century Christian will continue to meet the challenges of presenting the ancient gospel to today’s world in ways that are relevant. Although there is a somber veil over the company in Barry’s passing, we face the future with a confident assurance that God will continue to use this company for His glory.
We ask your prayers for Barry’s family and friends as they deal with the loss. We also ask that you keep our business and its valuable ministry in your prayers as we work through this transition period. We hope to be able to serve the Lord’s church for many years to come.

In His service,

Tom Tignor, Vice President of Publications
21st Century Christian Publishing
